How to Increase Search Engine Traffic and Improve Web Site Ranking

To increase search engine traffic is not as difficult as some people think. For a site operator, improving a Web site’s search engine ranking is the primary desired effect. Higher ranking equals more visitors. More visitors or more hits equals more potential advertisers and higher profits. Below are some steps that a webmaster master can take to increase traffic to his/her site.

1) SEO Optimization – Search engine optimization is the process of optimizing a Web site’s content to suit the indexing processes of search engines and what online visitors are searching for. This process usually entails editing the content of the site; including the body of the articles in it, the tags and the keywords to increase the site’s relevance on what is being searched for by online visitors.

The better optimized a website is, the higher its ranking would be in search engines. When one talks about search engine ranking, it only means that when a searcher types in a key word or phrase related to a particular site, that site will be first among a list of similar resources that will be produced by the search engine.

2) Content development – In any form of media, the content is always one of the most important, if not the most important, aspects of the whole unit. SEO optimization can increase chances of drawing visitors, but would these visitors remain loyal to the site? Would they recommend it to others?

The thing about visitor traffic improvement is that a webmaster is not just looking for a single hit. He/she would want the same visitors to go back to the site and choose it over similar or related resources when they are in need of its content. Furthermore, a site operator would want these visitors to tell others about the site. To achieve this, the site should provide complete, relevant, easy-to-understand content. It should not be repetitive and the report articles should offer more than other sites are offering.

3) Build links with other sites – Having links with sites that have similar topics, particularly those that are already well-established, will definitely contribute to increasing visitor traffic. A site operator can ask other operators for links or use software programs that provide such service. Whatever method a webmaster uses, it is important to be linked with other sites. After all, no man is an island, not even in the Internet.

Increase search engine traffic by using the methods discussed above. Remember that in the Internet business, whether a person is running a business site or writing a blog, traffic or visitor hit is the measure of success and is the first step in gaining profit.

I did a google search with the keywords “google market share march 2006” and found this right away:

The only noteworthy change is that Ask Jeeves jumped ahead of MSN UK for 7th spot. Google still dominates the market with Yahoo a distant second.
