Keyword Research Definition
In the online realm, Keyword Research is the process of identifying the terms and phrases that can enhance the “searchability” of a site with respect to the Search Engines (Google, Yahoo!, MSN/Bing). It is the preoccupation of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) professionals and enthusiasts who want to enhance the number of visitors to the websites they market.

Two Archaic Systems

The system identifies words and phrases which have substantial traffic and a low number of websites which “compete” for them.
* Keyword Effectiveness Index (KEI)- is similar to the above. It uses the same elements– popularity and competitiveness; then establishes an “index” by getting the ratio–popularity:competitiveness. A higher KEI means a better rating keyword.
* The problem with the above two- is that it uses just two criterion elements. Popularity (number of visits per month) and competitiveness (number of websites than contain a key phrase) are good indicators of keyword potential. Other elements must be considered because they play an equally important role in determining keyword effectiveness– as will be seen below. Also, both of above systems require so much time to do; it takes several hours to identify the good keywords for a niche.

The New Methodology of Keyword Research – Four Golden Rules
Instead of just two, the new system uses four elements. The Four Golden Rules of Keyword Research mandates the systematic consideration of the following.
1. Traffic – must have good popularity. Daily or monthly visits of sufficient number.
2. Relevance – must be niche pertinent. Appropriateness ratio in tandem with market.
3. Competition – must not be over-rivalled. Competing webpages less than set maximum.
4. Commerciality – must have earning potential. Sufficient daily dollar activity.
So, exactly how do you undertake the new approach to Keyword Research?

All You Need Is Twenty Minutes
