Search Advertising?s Share in Total Internet Advertising Revenue Increases for the First Half 2009

Search advertising revenue share increased 1.7% in the total Internet advertising in first six months of 2009, when compared to the first half of 2008. According to the Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB) report, total Internet advertising revenues were .9 billion in first half of 2009, declining 5.3% when compared to the corresponding period last year. The revenues were .5 billion for the first six months of 2008.

Search ad continue as the top revenue generator
Search advertising revenue accounted 47% in first six months of 2009. Display ads and classifieds are next to search advertising respectively. In absolute numbers, search ad revenues totaled .1 billion for the first six months of this year, with no change reported in the corresponding period of 2008. However, the share in the total Internet advertising increased by 1.7% as the other segments’ share decreased. This shows that, there is no improvement in search ad revenue. The only difference is in terms of search advertising revenue percentage in the total revenue.

The most costly online display advertising revenues declined by 1.1% in the first half of 2009 when compared to the first half of 2008. The total revenues were .8 billion with 34% in first six months of 2009. The display related advertising revenues including banner ads generated ,394 million with 22% of the total Internet advertising revenues. Rich media generated 4 million with 7% share, digital video ads generated 7 million with 4%, and sponsorship ads generated 4 million with 2% of total Internet ad revenues.

First time negative trend in first half revenues in 2009, since 2002

If the historical revenues trends are observed during the last seven years, for the first time there was a negative trend in year over year revenue growth in 2009 first half. The revenues were ,978 million in 2002, ,292 million in 2003, ,590 million in 2004, ,787 million in 2005, 09 million in 2006, ,993 million in 2007, ,510 million in 2008 and ,900 million in 2009. Earlier a negative growth trend was seen in 2000-2001 and 2001-2002. This trend appeared three times in the last ten years and first time in the last seven years.

Overall, search advertising revenues show positive trend, though there is a drop across all other advertising format revenues in the first half of 2009. It indicates that people who invested in search advertising got better revenues when compared to others who invested in other online advertising formats.

Question by jetfrogz: Do you think internet advertising is getting out of hand?
I know most sites use this to make money to keep their sites up and running, and to also allow free content. However I can’t help but notice an increase in the number of ads you see on a site, and how they are in unnecessary spots. For example, when you goto to some sites to watch videos, a 15-30 second ad plays before. Now I’m not saying I’m impatient or anything but when you want to watch a video, you want to see the video and only the video. Plus when you watch numerous ones, do you really want to see the same four ads over and over? It may not be a big deal now, but in the future this may get out of hand. Do you think these types of ads even work? I’d like to hear from both sides of the agruement as to good reasons or bad reasons to internet advertising. Thanks in advance!

On the other hand, if you know that you will be using Microsoft applications extensively, or you plan on developing extensively using FrontPage, especially FrontPage 2002, MS SQL, ASP.NET or if you are looking for E-commerce add- ons or you will be using high-end databases then Windows/NT Hosting is the right choice for you. But if you are looking for universal compatibility regardless of the operating system the end user has, Linux has the ability to run a much wider variety of custom scripts and programs than Windows 2000/NT, and it offers easier, lower-cost set-up for advanced applications such as CGI scripts, databases.

Under Linux web hosting operating system, there is, database, server software and gathering of coding. Linux is the most preferred and demanded operating system because of its features and vigorous environment and it is the next best alternative to Microsoft and UNIX operating system. Linux is widely used and chosen worldwide due to its permanent network and server operating system. Advantages of Choosing Linux Based Web Host

Following are the advantages of using Linux based web server compared to Windows based web server:

1. Stable:

Linux/Unix operating systems has traditionally been believed to be very stable and robust. A web site housed on a Linux operating system will have very high up-time (of the order of 99.9%). Of course, other factors such as power supply, network admin skills, and network load etc. also matter when it comes to maintaining the system uptime.

2. Low cost of ownership:

The Linux OS comes free of cost (or at very insignificant cost, usually cost of distribution). Also, it has full fledged server, and desk top applications that comes free along with the OS. These server applications (such as FTP, Web Server, DNS Server, File Server etc.) being free, are also very stable.

3. Ease of use:

When it comes to web hosting, it is easy to host on Linux web servers. The process of uploading and hosting is almost same for both Linux and Windows web servers. If you want to use a Windows based tool such as Front Page for uploading a web site on to a Linux based web server, make sure that the Front Page extensions are enabled. This is only required if you are uploading using HTTP feature of Front Page. Front Page also makes it possible to upload a web site using FTP. Note that if you select “Front Page Extensions” during web site design, you must enable Front Page extensions on a Linux web server also.
You can use almost all types of file extensions or scripts when using Linux web server. Commonly, the following extensions are supported: .cgi, .html, .htm, .pl, .php, .shtml, .xml, and others. Basically it means that you can host web sites that use different types of server side scripts including .cgi, .pl, .php, and .asp with plug-in. Get a Good Linux Web Host at OnSmart.net

4. Easy to move between hosts:

A web site designed to be hosted on a Linux based web server can be hosted on a Windows web server easily, where as the reverse is not always true.

Most widely used: Linux/Unix based web hosting is most widely used compared to Windows based web hosting.

5. Scalability:

A web site is dynamic. Usually, a web site starts with a few pages of html and grows over a period of time to suit the customer’s requirements. It is preferable to design a web site keeping these requirements in mind. A web site designed for compatibility with a Linux/Unix based web server meets the scalability requirement easily without making any site wide design changes.

On the downside, Linux based web server is not fully compatible with Microsoft technologies. If you are using any specialized applications or VB for development of your web site, it is preferable to host with a Windows based web server.

First Time Buying on Ebay? – How to Bid and Buy on Ebay for Beginners

First Time Buying on Ebay? – How to Bid and Buy on Ebay for Beginners

Since online buying and selling has become remarkably commonplace these days, people are buying products from eBay with great trust and skill. If you do not know anything about it yet, there may be a chance that you are feeling somewhat left out. But don’t worry, with this article we are going to explain the whole thing. Here you can learn some of the basic tips on how to bid and buy on ebay for beginners.

What is eBay?

EBay is the world’s biggest online auction website. Knowing how auctions work will help you a lot to understand the basics of eBay. If you have something that you want to sell you add it to the auction site, then interested buyers come along and place their bids.

The buyer who offers the best price gets the product. It is as simple as a conventional auction. The only difference in these two is that it is an online auction and the conventional auctions are done in a location.

On eBay you can buy or sell almost everything. Small or big, all products get equal opportunity to get advertised on eBay. It’s a persuasive blend of an auction and a worldwide marketplace.

What is Bidding?

Bidding is the process where you say how much you will pay for an item in an auction. Bidding on eBay, works somewhat in the same way as a normal auction, however not exactly. The basic theory is the same though. Unless the item is listed under “Buy It Now”, then it can take up to 7 days or more for the final bid. Unlike conventional auctions.

There are also other methods of bidding, which you can learn after you have a good idea of how the basic bidding process works.

How Do I Bid?

Once you have registered at ebay, you will want to locate the box marked “search”: Type the name of a product in which you are interested. Now you have a list of items for sale in front of you for the item you searched, along with the bid amount and the time when the bid concludes for each item.

Click on one of them, whichever one you feel is the best, you can get the full description, images and any other details that you may need to know. If you have some queries you may seek answers for that from the seller. And if you are happy with the answers and glad to pay more than what the existing highest bidder is paying, – you can place your bid!

Just scroll down to the bottom of an item’s description page, place the maximum you are willing to pay. Then press the ‘place bid’ button – If your maximum bid on that item is lower than that already exists, eBay will give you the chance to bid once more. And now you are the new highest bidder.

You are to wait and watch until the auction is over – if someone outbids you, you will get a email from eBay with an opportunity to bid once again.
