Relationship Marketing requires constant and non-ending attention. I often refer to it as Relationship Farming because, much like in farming, you always have a lot to do. There is never a time of the year when a good farmer will be able to do nothing. Sometimes you have to work even harder.

That’s what Relationship Marketing is like. In real life farming, you’re always planting, cultivating, nurturing, weeding, harvesting or other tasks. Yet, this is the joy of seeing something grow that you have brought about with your actions. Yes, you have to trust nature. But working with it on your own brings about the joy.

The same principles of farming apply to Relationship Marketing. You are always in one of the various stages of establishing, building or maintaining relationships. This is where the challenge comes — you’re never “there.” You’re always in the midst of something. You’re working to make contact with that person. You’re sending out your blogs, your posts, your tweets, etc., etc. trying to make contact with, well, new contacts!

Then once you’ve made contact and they go through the Know, Like, Trust ladder, they eventually want to engage with you. That is the goal in business. The goal in farming is harvest. The goal in business is to create a customer.

A customer is defined as someone who is purchasing what you offer. Until they reach that stage of “have purchased,” they are not a customer but a prospect. Until you reach harvest, you can’t count the acres of corn you thought you would have. Something about chickens and counting before they hatch!

Remember that establishing, building and maintaining relationships in business is an on-going and never-ending process. Some might find this frustrating. However, it is also exhilarating when we see the result! Seeing a harvest is the beauty of farming — and in Relationship Marketing.

So, what do you think? I’d love to hear your comments and how this works for you. What do you find helps to maintain Relationship Marketing in your efforts? What works best? What doesn’t work? I’d love to hear from you. Thank you for your comments. I know it will help others.

Here’s a video that discusses this. I did it a while back but have had a lot of good comments on it. It is about Relationship Marketing and how it relates to farming. What do you think? Are they related? I look forward to your comments.

An Internet Home Business Needs To Build A Relationship With The Search Engines In Order To Survive

An Internet Home Business Needs To Build A Relationship With The Search Engines In Order To Survive

I write about owning an Internet Home Business because I own one and I have 30 plus years experience working with people who have worked from home long before computers were commonplace in homes. Owning an Internet Home Business has an added dilemma to the process of actually taking an idea, a concept, and making it an actual business, the problem of traffic and that relationship with the search engines.

Even though I have worked with thousands of people over their years in regards to their own business, I am a newbie to a large extent when it comes to me personally setting up shop on the Internet. It has been a very steep, sharp learning curve, one that is still creeping up on me. I have made some huge mistakes over the last year, ones that have cost me dearly in time, effort and resources. They say, “What does not kill you will make you stronger.” If that is the case, I am definitely much stronger than I was even a year ago.

I want to start to delve into the relationship between an Internet Home Business owner and the search engines at large. I will touch on a few of the areas that I think you should be aware of and need to pay some attention to. I will pull no punches, and in the process will tell you of some of the massive mistakes that I have made, in the hopes, you do not make them as well. If you are squeamish, you may want to stop reading here, the rest of this is very disturbing, especially when you consider I actually made these mistakes!

Mistake Number 1

I actually did not spend any time on picking or selecting any keywords for my web site, or for my content, or articles, for the fist 9 months that I was trying to make money on the Internet. There, I said it. I look back and I still cannot believe I made such a massive mistake. Yes, there is a great deal to do when you are starting an Internet Home Business. I have been doing it, off line, for 30 years, which makes my mistake even more embarrassing.

I basically wasted the first 9 months of my start on the Internet with this huge omission. I did do a lot of work, some of it is salvageable, but a large amount of it, because of it having no keywords, will be lost. That is my opinion, others have disagreed with me, but we all agree, a little of the proper work at the beginning, could of salvaged all of it.

In one sentence, you need keywords on everything you create, keywords will let the search engines find you, and in turn, will let the search engines’ customers find you. And that means that, hopefully, the traffic will start to flow to your Internet Home Business. When you think traffic for your business, you have to think keywords and search engines, all in one sentence. No keywords, no search engines, no traffic. Do not make the mistake that I made.

Mistake Number 2

SEO, or Search Engine Optimization, is a combination of art form and science, take your pick of which one is more prevalent. Another glaring error that I made was this one: I made a web site with only one purpose in mind; to make it attractive and functional to my potential customers. How stupid was I! In the reality of owning an Internet Home Business, we have to serve two masters; one: our potential customers, and the other: the search engines. One without the other equals no business.

Building a web site without considering the design features that will make your site “search engines friendly” is like opening up a new business in the basement of your house and not telling anyone about it. It could be a great business, but if no one ever gets to see it, what’s the point? If you do not get indexed on the search engines, no one who uses the search engines to find web sites will ever get to see you.

You may not have known it at the time, but when you decide to set up shop on the Internet, you acquired a partner: the search engines. They may be a silent partner, but never forget their impact on your business and the power they have over us. If you want your Internet Home Business to be successful, be prepared to work closely with the search engines. They will be your best friend or your worse nightmare; it all depends upon you.

Question by Geri42: What is the best Internet home business to be involved in?
I’d like to work from home on the Internet, but don’t know which ones are ligitimate. Can anyone tell me which ones are? Also, might there be a danger of me working, then not being able to collect my pay? If so, how should I handle that?
